Governor Names BioEnergy Solutions Winner of 2009 Top Environmental Leadership Award

September 30, 2009

SACRAMENTO – Today, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger announced that BioEnergy Solutions of Bakersfield, California has won the 2009 Governor’s Environmental and Economic Leadership Award (GEELA) for its Dairy Biomethane Cluster Projects.

GEELA is California's highest and most prestigious environmental honor. The award program recognizes individuals, organizations and businesses that have demonstrated exceptional leadership for voluntary achievements in conserving California’s resources, protecting and enhancing the environment, and building public-private partnerships.

BioEnergy Solutions' first digester project came on-line in 2008 and is the first in California to upgrade biogas from dairy digesters to pipeline quality and inject it into an existing natural gas line. Unlike past approaches where methane was captured and used to generate electricity on-site, this approach allows for economies of scale and efficiencies that will facilitate increased reductions in greenhouse gas emissions by the California Dairy Industry.

“We are honored to be recognized among other organizations that are leading the way in environmental stewardship in California,” said David Albers, CEO and Founder of BioEnergy Solutions.  “Our business model creates a way for everyone to win, from the utility and the developer, to the dairy producer and the environment.”

Award recipients are chosen in ten different categories based on their strength in eight specific areas including results, transferability, environmental impact, resource conservation, economic progress, innovation and uniqueness, pollution prevention, and environmental justice.  BioEnergy Solutions won the award in the category of Climate Change for its innovative and forward thinking approaches to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and reducing impact on the environment.

BioEnergy Solutions is one of only 15 recipients that will be recognized at the GEELA reception at the Governors’ Global Climate Summit 2 in Los Angeles.
